Culvert Works Corris Powys

Project: The objective of this project was to replace a damaged culvert pipe that was taking a stream under the forest road.
Location: Corris, Powys, Wales

The objective of this project was to replace a damaged culvert pipe that was taking a stream under the forest road. The existing culvert was made up of 2x 900mm armco steel pipes which had become damaged over time.

We were involved in the planning of this project and a number of options were discussed and it was decided to replace the pipes with a single length twin wall plastic pipe of 2.4m diameter.

The main concerns on this site were the watercourse, overhead power lines, the close proximity to the public road and the access. Planning permission was gained and the project began, the first step was to gain control of the watercourse by installing 3x 9” water pumps to pump the stream alongside our excavation.

We then dug out the road and removed the excavated material to a storage area for later use. The old pipes were removed and the base levelled for the new pipe, we then installed the new pipe on pipe bedding and backfilled.

New headwalls were created using 45T of imported boulders backed by concrete.

The road was built back up to level, graded and rolled.
